DoomCatcher is a small device that creates a "social media free zone" around it. When your phone is within 4m/14ft, the DoomCatcher app automatically blocks preselected apps to help you stop doom scrolling and unwind.
In the DoomCatcher app, tap the + button, then place your DoomCatcher right next to your phone. Keep them close until the device appears in the app and the pairing flow completes. You'll be asked for a 6-digit PIN code printed on the bottom of your DoomCatcher.
On the main screen of the DoomCatcher app, tap on your DoomCatcher. From there you can choose which apps should be blocked whenever you're in that device's zone. Changes are saved automatically and take effect the next time your phone enters the zone.
Not quite. Devices like Brick and Unpluq use NFC tags—you have to physically tap your phone to block or unblock apps. That still requires a conscious decision in the moment, which is exactly when willpower is lowest. DoomCatcher is fully automatic. When you walk into the room, blocking turns on. When you leave, it turns off. No tapping, no toggling, no deciding. Think of it like the difference between cruise control and autopilot—one still needs you, the other just works.
In the inverted mode, the apps you choose will only be available inside the DoomCatcher's zone and blocked everywhere else. For example, you could keep a DoomCatcher at your work desk so certain productivity apps only work there, while social media stays blocked.
Yes. You can set up multiple DoomCatcher devices (for example, bedroom, desk, dining table). Each device creates its own ultra-local zone, and the app will respond automatically when you enter any of them.
Up to 4 users can pair to the same DoomCatcher device.
First confirm that the DoomCatcher device is nearby, Bluetooth is on, and the app has the necessary permissions (including Screen Time/Family Controls on iOS). Then make sure the apps you want blocked are selected in the app's settings.
Yes. The blocking behavior works locally between your phone and the DoomCatcher device. No internet connection needed.
DoomCatcher is designed to run for about 2 years on a single battery in typical use. To check the battery level, open the app and tap on your DoomCatcher on the main screen. DoomCatcher uses a standard CR2477 coin cell that you can replace when it runs low—just follow the battery replacement instructions included with your device or in the app.
We collect limited device telemetry such as a pairing event, firmware version, and battery level to keep the system reliable. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Yes. You can always open the DoomCatcher app and temporarily disable blocking for a specific device. You stay in control — the device creates the default, not a lock.
DoomCatcher uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), which is designed for minimal power draw. Most users don't notice any difference in battery life.
